The story behind “Fill My Cup” by Andrew Ripp

Story behind the song “Fill My Cup”:

"The adventure this song went on to eventually make it's way on to my record is unlike any other song I've ever released. "Fill My Cup" was first written and recorded by my good friend Thad Cockrell who is one of my favorite artists of all time and also happens to be a great friend of mine.

I got in my car one day and my ol' pal bluetooth began magically playing a song that was on my phone without me thinking about it.. as soon as I heard `I've been walking to a city I cannot see' I knew I needed to explore the potential of making this a Ripp tune.

Thankfully, when I brought it up over breakfast with Thad he was equally as jazzed about the idea as I was. The rest is history. Props to my brother Ethan Hulse for helping us write this new version and also producing it in a way that inspires me every time I hear it.”

“In the midst of a breakthrough, it’s easy to notice that our ‘cup is being filled.’ But when we’re waiting between the prayer and the answer, it’s just as easy for it to feel empty.”

Ephesians 3:16-19 ESV
”That according to the riches of his glory he may grant you to be strengthened with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith—that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.”

Lyrics to “Fill My Cup”:

Been walkin' to a city I cannot see (ooh, ooh)
Through the depths of the valley where the sun can't reach (ooh, ooh)
I've been high, I've been low
I've been looking for the river that could fill my soul
Been walkin' to a city I cannot see (oh-oh-oh)

Fill my cup, Lord
Run it over
Give me love, give me joy
Give me peace (oh-oh-oh)
Fill my cup, Lord
Run it over
I am Your child in need
Lord, I need You (oh-oh-oh)

Fill my cup (oh-oh)
Fill my cup (oh-oh)
Fill my cup (oh-oh)
Fill my cup (oh-oh)
Fill my cup

Been walkin' over lies standin' in my way (oh, oh)
They can say they want, I don't want what they say (oh, oh)
I was born far from home
But I've been thriving in the wonder of the great unknown
'Cause I'm drinking from a well from another place (oh-oh-oh), ooh

Fill my cup, Lord
Run it over
Give me love, give me joy
Give me peace (oh-oh-oh)
Fill my cup, Lord
Run it over
I am Your child in need
Lord, I need You (oh-oh-oh)

Fill my cup (oh-oh)
Fill my cup (oh-oh)
Fill my cup (oh-oh)
Fill my cup (oh-oh)
Fill my cup

Fill my house up with hoping
Fill my plans up with purpose
Fill my rooms up with healing (oh-oh-oh)
Lord, I need You (to fill my cup)
Fill my days up with meaning
Fill my future with vision
Goodness, grace and provision (oh-oh-oh)
Lord, I need You (to fill my cup)

And when I get to that city that I cannot see
I'll know that even this valley was a golden stream (oh-oh-oh)

Fill my cup, Lord
Run it over
Give me love, give me joy
Give me peace (oh-oh-oh)
Fill my cup, Lord
Run it over
I am Your child in need
Lord, I need You (oh-oh-oh)

To fill my cup (oh, fill my house up with hoping)
Fill my cup (oh, fill my plans up with purpose)
Fill my cup (oh, fill my rooms up with healing)
Lord I need You (To fill my cup)

Fill my cup (oh, fill my days up with meaning)
Fill my cup (oh, fill my future with vision)
Fill my cup (oh, goodness, grace and provision)
Lord, I need You (to fill my cup)
