The Story Behind “Scars in Heaven” by Casting Crowns

The story behind “Scars in Heaven” by Casting Crowns.

“Scars in Heaven” was born from Mark Hall’s experience and pain in watching his mother bear the weight in caring for his grandparents before they passed away to be with the Lord.

When we lose someone, our only faith and comfort has got to come from the Father.

It’s not going to come from here, because all we see are reminders that we don’t have them. So what we’ve got to do is, we’ve got to ask God to help us release our ideas of who I knew that loved one was, and I’ve got to start focusing on who they are now.

They are with Jesus. They are being held by the hands that bear the only “Scars in Heaven.””

-Mark Hall (Casting Crowns)

“Scars in Heaven” is such a beautiful and inspiring song. We hope and pray this song finds you and brings you comfort for any loved ones you may have lost, knowing they are now healed and with Jesus in Heaven.

If I had only known the last time would be the last time
I would've put off all the things I had to do
I would've stayed a little longer, held on a little tighter
Now what I'd give for one more day with you
'Cause there's a wound here in my heart where something's missing
And they tell me that it's gonna heal with time
But I know you're in a place where all your wounds have been erased
And knowing yours are healed is healing mine

The only scars in heaven, they won't belong to me and you
There'll be no such thing as broken, and all the old will be made new
And the thought that makes me smile now, even as the tears fall down
Is that the only scars in heaven are on the hands that hold you now

Related Bible Verse: John 20:19-23 NIV
”On the evening of that first day of the week, when the disciples were together, with the doors locked for fear of the Jewish leaders, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you!” After he said this, he showed them his hands and side. The disciples were overjoyed when they saw the Lord.

Again Jesus said, “Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.” And with that he breathed on them and said, “Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive anyone’s sins, their sins are forgiven; if you do not forgive them, they are not forgiven.””
